19th January 2009

Urologist Appointment.

My appointment was at 2.30pm on 19th January 2009.
I was working this day so I took some time off during the afternoon, to be able to attend the appointment. I arrived at the out patients department of the hospital about 10 minutes before.
I was checked in at the reception desk and directed along a corridor to sit outside a consultation room. There were 3 people waiting before me, so after about 20 minutes it was finally my turn to be seen.
I was called into the room by a nursing assistant, who once we were inside the room informed me that the doctor would want to examine me, (at this point the doctor was not in the consultation room, but in his adjoining office)
The nurse now said to me "Would you like to" and then rather than verbalising what she wanted me to do, she made gestures with her hands that would suggest it was to remove my trousers. This was alarm bell number 1, as here we had a nursing assistant who was either too inept or embarrassed to actually ask me to remove my trousers!

Anyways once I had my trousers and boxers off I jumped onto the bed and covered myself with the blanket provided.
About 2 minutes later the consultant walked in, a portly man in his late 50's, tweed jacket and dickie bow. He asked me how long I had been unable to retract my foreskin and I told him my entire life. He now asked to have a look, so I removed the blanket and on his request pulled back my foreskin as much as I could.
He now declared that "well it has to be a circumcision, it’s the best option, and after about 4 week you can use it again but don't be too angry with it"
On this note he now went back to his office finally saying the nurse will take some details. The consultant Urologist was in my presence for no longer than 30 seconds. I had been waiting for so long for this consultation and that was it, after giving a few contact details to the nurse, I left the hospital feeling very underwhelmed, None of my questions were answered (well I did not even get to ask them) and I felt no more better off or informed than I did before.
