The day of my circumcision started early as I needed to be on my way to the airport to fly to London.
I guess it would have been very easy to have been full of nerves now that the day was here, but to be honest I felt very positive and ready and wanted to get to the doctors and get on with it.
I think that because I had waited for so long to be circumcised I was at a point where it was totally right for me and I was as ready as I was ever going to be!
My travel into London went like clockwork, flight was bang on time, trains and tube connections all went to plan, and I got Custom House Surgery just before 1.00pm, it was very easy to find and literally 2 minutes walk from Custom House station.
On informing the receptionist of my arrival, I was very soon greeted by Sylvia the Practise Manager, I could not have wished for a nicer welcome, the next 15 minutes were spent chatting. She now gave me the aftercare information and went through it with me. The last thing to do was sign the consent form and then Sylvia informed me that Dr Zarifa would be with me soon!
I only had to wait about 10 minutes and then I was called into Dr Z’s office. It was great to finally meet the man that I had heard so much about for many years. What now followed was a very in-depth detailed consultation. The consultation comprised of an examination to check my foreskin, and then a good discussion about why I wanted to be circumcised and what style I had in mind. He presented to me all my options and sketched several diagrams to really explain the difference between the different cuts.
He gave me a lot of sound advice about ‘low’ cuts and how that once the inner skin is gone it cannot be put back, but how a higher cut can be made lower in the future if one desires.
I went to see Dr Z with an open mind and at this point I decided to take his professional advice and opt for a medium cut so as to retain some of the inner skin. I also decided not to go as tight as I had originally intended, as I was informed that because I am grower and not a shower, when erect it would pull up scrotal skin. (which I did not want to have happen)
He also told me what he would do during the procedure, and also spoke of aftercare and the healing process, which he illustrated with photographs of circumcised penis’ at different stages of healing.
Once I was decided on what cut I was having I signed the relevant diagram that he had drawn and we then went through to the operating room.
In the operating room, I met the nurse Pat who was already in there. Dr Z asked me to now remove my trousers and briefs and to get onto the operating table. He now got me to lie in the correct position for him to work, and once asking me if I was ready he started with administering several injections of local anaesthetic into the base of my penis. I felt the scratch of the needle, but it was not really pain, no different to the dentist really.
My penis did start to swell pretty much straight away, which was interesting to see. At this point I did take a few photographs which Dr Z did give me permission to do.
He now started to check how the anaesthetic was working. This part did feel quite sensitive and although was not painful was a little uncomfortable. The anaesthetic must have worked more than I felt it had though as one of these tests he did was to cut through the phimotic band of my foreskin and retract my foreskin. He asked me to have a look, and it was certainly a good sight to see.
He now started fully on the circumcision, and I laid back and looked at the ceiling. I was fully aware of what he was doing, it was a very strange experience as there was no pain, but I could feel everything. Especially when he clamped the forceps onto my foreskin and cut it off. I felt quite tense and jumped a few times and Dr Z had to ask me a couple of times to keep my legs flat.
He used an electro cautery instrument to remove the frenulum and to seal the blood vessels, it was funny to see the whisps of smoke rising, there was only a slight smell with this, I had expected it to be much more so.
Now it was time for the suturing, again I could feel exactly what he was doing, but it was not painful apart from one area where the anaesthetic had reduced, he continued to work on another area where it was still numb, and then after giving me another injection was able to finish the other side. I believe approximately 20 stitches were used in total.
He now cleaned me up and then asked me to have a look and take a photo if I wanted, this was the first time I saw my circumcised penis. I was amazed with how neat it looked, there was a little bit of swelling but not too much, it really gave me an idea of how my final result will look.
Dr Z now applied a tight bandage with the assistance of the nurse, I was now able to stand up and get dressed. He assisted me in putting my briefs back on and showed me how to keep my penis down in between my legs with the padding that he gave me in front of my penis.
I had brought another pair of briefs with me and he suggested I put these on as well, in order to make it tighter and stop it from moving about.
It was now time to say good bye and thanks to Dr Zurifa, I felt like giving him a hug, but I thought a firm hand shake would be more appropriate. Dr Zurifa is one of the nicest men you could ever wish to meet. He appears as an ultimate professional, and looking after his patients is obviously very important to him. He put me at ease at all times, makes good conversation during the procedure and also made me laugh with his dry sense of humour. I could not have been in better hands.
I was now given a bottle of water to drink to encourage me to pee, and also my prescription for anti-biotics which I went to collect, whilst I was waiting for the water to go through me.
At this time I was feeling a little dizzy and giddy, but apart from that felt great.
After collecting my anti-biotics I returned back to the surgery and visited the bathroom, I was able to pee straight away, it was a strange experience as I was used to the sensation of the urine passing through my foreskin! I opted to sit to pee, which I’m glad I did as it came out in 2 streams at quite extreme angles!
I went to inform the nurse that everything was ok, and I was given permission to leave, it was now 3:00pm, so the entire process from start to finish was exactly 2 hours.
I made my way back to Victoria station as quickly as I could, as I wanted to get something to eat, as I knew this would perk me up and stop the dizziness, which it certainly did.
By 4:00pm, I was back on the train to the airport with plenty of time to spare.
I had by now decided to take some pain killers, as it did feel like it was stinging slightly. The pain killers sorted this out fine.
I got home by 8:00pm, first thing I needed to do was pee again, which I did with no problems (sitting down again) the bandage on the penis did have some blood that had soaked through, but not much, I was expecting much more, the gauze padding in my briefs only had a little bit of blood, so I replaced this for clean gauze.
By now I was ready for a well deserved drink!
What a day, 2 planes, 2 trains, 6 underground trains, oh and a circumcision!
